Analyzing the Facebook Platform, three weeks in

Especially the scaling section. I have been ruminating on things which may work nicely when integrated with Facebook, but hadn't seriously considered the implications of droves of people liking anything I created, a situation which offers two choices: #1 spending craploads on hosting, or #2 stopping.

I wonder what restriction options are available? Can you offer your app to, for example, only friends? Have a moderation system? What are the choices here?
